Legal Requirements

Simply Stunning Weddings will assist you every step of the way with your legal papers to get married in Turkey.

The legal procedure for UK nationals in Turkey was simplified on 1st March 2014.

You are no longer required to source a Certificate of No Impediment. All required documents are found on the UK government website. (Link below).

It is no longer required to register your marriage certificate with the General Register Office in the UK. Your Turkish marriage certificate, with full English translation, is a globally legalised document.

The following documents are required to marry in Turkey:

Passport (with a minimum of 6 months expiry)

Passport size photographs (6, each person )

Legalisation Form available from UK Government (link below)

Affidavit of Marital status (available from UK Government online and certified by the FCO UK, link below)

If Widowed the Death Certificate and previous Marriage Certificate are required

If you have changed your name by Deed Poll or were Adopted you will need to provide proof.

We ask that all documents are emailed to us at least 4 weeks prior to your wedding in Turkey. Please note, the Affidavit of Marital Status is valid for 180 days from the date of certification.

Most importantly, to complete all the legal requirements we ask that you are in Turkey at least 3 working days before your wedding and at least 1 working day after.

Please contact our wedding planners, if you have any questions or require full details of the legal process.

N.B.  Not all our clients are residents of the UK, if you are a non UK citizen, we advise that you contact your local registry office on the legal requirements of your country. It is vitally important that all your documents are correct prior to your arrival in Turkey as we take no responsibility for the validity of your papers.
